Video Transcription:

Hello everyone! My name is Frank. And today we’ll be reviewing a great little tool that can help you determine the speed of your hard drives. This tool can be used on network map drive to check the speed of your network folder. It can also be used on iSCSI drive if you have one or simply just a SATA drive connected to your machine. Its interface is simple and easy to understand. It requires no installation and it simply runs in memory during the time that you’re using the program. It creates a small Temp folder on the drive that it’s testing and deletes that folder after the test is complete. So it really bears no negative impact on your computer.

As you can see, when I launched the software, all I have to do is simply click ‘Run’ and and allow it to run. I’ll move this over to my main screen. As you can see in the graphic interface, it will show you all your drives nice and easy to understand. There’s no guesswork as to which drive you’re testing or anything like that.

For this particular test, I will be using the 64-kilobyte default block size. I am going to click on my V drive. So this way, it’s also clear as to which drive I am testing and then I’ll click the ‘Start’ button. As you can see during the test, the read and write speeds are very easy to understand. There’s no guesswork as to how fast is this drive truly working at or anything like that. And the one thing that’s nice about this new version of Parkdale is that at the end of both tests, the read and the write, it also shows a quick latency test on the drive as well.

Now, if you want to get Parkdale, there’s a couple of ways you can do that. You can go to Google and you can type in the term ‘Parkdale hard drive speed test’. That’s one of your choices. You can click on the Softpedia Parkdale link usually near the top and it will most likely be the latest version. If you click on that link, you’ll notice on some cases, you might see a couple different download buttons and you might be a bit confused to which one do we truly want. When we hover over this download button, and what you’ll see is ‘click here to download Parkdale’. So we click on that. It takes us to the download page. I generally choose the Softpedia secure service just because it’s probably a lot less likely that you can have any problems with the software in terms of not worrying about anything that you don’t want. Click on the link and of course we save it to our local hard drive. Now, we’re not going to go through that test because there’s just no point in doing that. However, you get the understanding of how that works.

Your other option would be to simply go to Softpedia and also type in the term ‘Parkdale’. That should bring up your option to download that software as well. Now, there are many uses of this particular piece of software. If you have multiple hard drives in your computer, as I do here, and you are wondering which one of these drives would be the best one to perhaps run virtual machines off of. You actually want to find the one that’s the fastest because you’ll get your best performance off of that. Or perhaps, maybe you have an iSCSI drive that you’re connected to and it’s connecting up across the network but you’re not sure why it’s running slower or if it’s even truly running slow, this tool will allow you to get a benchmark for that particular test. And best of all, this tool is free. So give it a try and you’ll probably find how great this tool truly is.

Thank you very much for watching my video. Hope you enjoyed it! And I plan to post more helpful videos in the future.

Video Transcription

Hello everyone! Today, I will be posting a short video with instructions on how to get your other category back to reasonable level in iTunes.

As you can see in my iTunes here, my other category is approximately 740 megabytes in size. That’s a perfectly normal size. However, in some cases, you’ll have a problem where your other category starts to grow to 2GB, 6GB, and even more.

The first time I encountered this problem, I looked around on Google to see what solutions were out there. Unfortunately, the only solution I could find required me to reset my phone, reinstall all of my apps and rebuild the settings. As you can imagine, this took a long time to complete. And after a short time, this issue came back again to haunt me. Only this time, I was determined to find a better solution.

I did some more Google searching and I stumbled into a website that had the answer. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the URL to that site anymore, but I do remember the instructions that I found that did fix my problem. I will show you these steps in the hopes that it helps you out and saves the trouble in having to reestablish your phone over again and the best part of these steps is that they’re easy to perform and there isn’t very much to carry up.

In Step 1, you’ll see, while leaving your phone plugged into your computer via a USB cable, I am leaving iTunes open. You want to press the power button and the home button on your iPhone at the same time. But only for a few seconds. You should then see the option to shut down your phone. Allow the phone to shut down and leave it off for about 30 seconds.

In Step 2, you want to power the phone back up again. Wait until it gets to the main home screen and everything’s loaded up. Now, go back into iTunes on your computer and re-sync your phone. You should see the other category go back down to a more reasonable level. Keep in mind, you don’t want to press both buttons for more than 10 seconds. Once you get to 10 seconds, you will put the phone to a mode called DFU mode which is more of a diagnostics or firmware upgrade mode. In order to get out of that mode, if you do get into that one accidentally, simply press both buttons again for approximately 10 seconds and you should be able to get back out of that mode.
